SESSION 1

NFC Service Requirements: Use Case Issues

9.20

Objective: to explore end-user requirements for use case scenarios

Payment Services

What type of mobile NFC-enabled payment applications and services do banks & merchants consider are most likely to achieve wide scale adoption?

[NFC handset + USIM]  or  [NFC handset + SD] - what configuration of Secure Element do payment service providers consider best meets the requirements of end-users?

Will the characteristics of different mobile markets (postpaid, prepaid, etc.) and their mobile subscribers (churn, SIM replacement, etc.) across Asia influence these issues?

Non-Payment Services

Which non-payment NFC services (e.g. in advertising, leisure, IT, retail, automotive, utilities, health and government applications) hold the greatest business potential?

Which of these non-payment NFC services appeal to MNOs, to banks, to merchants, to transport revenue collectors and others - and what might be the business models?

What are the pros and cons of these different use case scenarios for mobile subscribers, payment application issuers, MNOs and other stakeholders?

SESSION 2

NFC Service Provision Issues: Application Lifecycle Management

11.20

Objective: to seek a feasible solution for NFC service provision that fits the lifecycle of NFC services and satisfies service providers

NFC handset + USIM (OTA) solution

Does the financial payments industry approve of this solution from commercial, security and regulatory perspectives? Which organisations would be qualified to be a TSM/TTP?

Application personalisation and download by OTA

Application initialization/personalisation by OTA

Value reloading (topup) by OTA

How does this compare with traditional payment card lifecycle management? Do TSM/TTPs need to be certified (by whom)? Will TSM/TTPs provide OTA services by region/area? Or be differentiated by applications? Are there any best practice user interfaces to set-up an NFC payment application on a mobile phone (OTA load, validation, PIN set-up etc)?

NFC handset +SD (card issuance) solution

What advantages/disadvantages does the financial payments industry see in this solution, from commercial, security and regulatory perspectives, compared with OTA solutions?

Card personalisation & lifecycle management by existing card issuer legacy model

Value reloading (topup) using legacy channels (gate, ATM, credit card account,..)

How do the SD costs/benefits compare to USIM? How will the characteristics of different mobile markets (postpaid/prepaid) and their subscriber behaviour (churn, SIM replacement, etc.) across Asia influence these issues?

NFC Service Certification and Interoperability

2.00

Objectives:

1.          How to speed up the certification process of financial NFC services and reduce the cost?

2.          To seek a feasible solution for interoperability between various NFC systems & applications, domestically and cross-border

NFC service certification and interoperability issues

The payment industry is evolving from contact to contactless technology, including NFC mobile payments. Testing and certification programmes for contactless and mobile NFC technologies will be essential to build trust in these new payment products.

● Fee paid by TRC to MNO for top-up services, promotions delivered to riders

E-purse applications for micropayments

● Current transaction revenue share rules between card issuers, acquirers, networks

● Possible changes which benefit existing stakeholders, reduce costs/liabilities and improve service for customers by adding value and incentives
